• 桜島（さくらじま）は、日本の九州南部、鹿児島県の鹿児島湾（錦江湾）にある東西約12km、南北約10km、周囲約55km、面積約77km²の活火山です。
• かつては島でしたが、1914年（大正3年）の噴火により、鹿児島市の対岸の大隅半島と陸続きとなりました。
• 火山噴火予知連絡会によって火山防災のために監視・観測体制の充実等の必要がある火山に選定されています。

• Sakurajima (Sakurajima) is an active volcano with about 12 km east-west, about 10 km north to south, about 55 km around, in the Kagoshima bay (Kanie Bay) in Kagoshima prefecture in southern Kyushu, Japan, about 77 km² in area.
• Once it was an island, due to the eruption of 1914 (Taisho 3 years), it became a landfall with the Osumi Peninsula on the other side of Kagoshima city.
• Volcanic eruption prediction liaison association has been selected as a volcano that needs to improve monitoring and observation system for volcanic disaster prevention.

• 西郷どん（西郷隆盛）は、薩摩藩の下級武士でありましたが、当代一の開明派大名であった藩主の島津斉彬の目にとまり抜擢され、明治維新で大きなはたらきをした、日本を代表する英雄です。
• 明治政府との路線対立などから、明治10年（1877年）に私学校生徒の暴動から始まる西南戦争の指導者となりましたが、敗れて城山で自刃しました。
• この写真集には、彼が最後にこもった洞窟（西郷洞窟）も含まれております。

伊万里焼（いまりやき）と有田焼（ありたやき）は、日本を代表する磁器として世界的に有名です。
佐賀藩（鍋島藩）の藩祖鍋島直茂が豊臣秀吉の朝鮮出兵（文禄・慶長の役、1592年 – 1598年）に参加したことをきっかけに、朝鮮から多くの陶工が佐賀藩（鍋島藩）へ渡り、これらの陶工によって有田における磁器製造が開始されました。
現在でも陶磁器の里として落ち着いた佇まいを留めております。
本写真集では、臨場感あふれる多くの写真で、陶磁器の里の雰囲気をお伝えします。
Imaraki and Aritayaki are famous worldwide as the representative porcelain in Japan.
Many potters from Korea came over to Saga after Naomi Nabeshima of Saga clan (Nabeshima clan) participated in Toyotomi Hideyoshi’s soldiers in Korea (role of Bunroku / Keicho, 1592 – 1598) Porcelain production in Arita started with these potters.
Even now it has kept a calm appearance as a village of ceramics.
